Gold medalist highlights Stars on Ice show coming to Lake Placid


Even stuck in a car in the midst of a New York City traffic jam, Olympic men’s figure skating gold medalist Evan Lysacek is still hard at work fielding questions from the Lake Placid News. After a morning spent skating at Rockefeller Center for its grand opening of the season, he was heading to Lake Placid to rehearse for the opening show of the 25th Anniversary Smucker’s Stars on Ice tour that opens Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Olympic Center.

“I’ve been working non-stop almost every day,” Lysacek told the News.

Indeed, it seems that Lysacek has been everywhere, from the ice, to television and magazines. There were several events and for the newly-crowned Olympian, including judging the Miss Universe competition, attending the Academy Awards and skating with the Stars on Ice post-Olympic Tour. He was also nominated for an ESPY award and the Sports Illustrated “Sportsman of the Year” award, he won the 2010 Golden Skate Award and modeled for several magazines including ESPN’s 2010 Body Issue.

Perhaps his most well-known project after the Olympics was participating in the popular television show “Dancing with the Stars,” where he competed against other celebrities in ballroom dance. Lysacek placed second overall in the competition, training and competing in dancing while also performing in the 41 city Stars on Ice Olympic Tour.

Another project Evan participated in recently was a film called “Rise,” a movie by United States Figure Skating about the 1961 plane crash tragedy when all of the passengers enroute to the World Figure Skating Championships perished.

For the first time since his Skate America win in November 2009, Evan is returning to the Olympic Center to entertain alongside skating legends in the 25th Anniversary tour of Stars on Ice.

“We still perform difficult tricks and prepare much the same way,” Lysacek said.

For the 25th Anniversary tour, Evan will be skating to a Tango from the movie “Moulin Rouge” and a piece that was specially recorded for him by David Hernandez, a competitor in American Idol Season 7. The program was choreographed by “So You Think You Can Dance” choreographer Travis Wall.
