Olympic gold medalist figure skater Evan Lysacek wasn’t quite sure what he had gotten himself into, but he definitely was having second thoughts.

オリンピック金メダリストのフィギュアスケーター、エヴァン・ライサチェックは自分がどんなことに巻き込まれるのかよくわかっていなかった。しかし確実に（撮影に参加するのに）二の足を踏んでいた。

“I haven’t seen it yet and I don’t want to,” said Lysacek of issue, which hit newsstands this week. “It was one of the most scary things I’ve ever done.”

「それ（写真）をまだ見ていないし、見たくないですね」と今週発売号に掲載されているライサチェックは語る。「今まで経験した中で、一番怖かったものの一つでした」

When Lysacek decided to participate, he thought, “Oh, I’m sure the photographers will make it comfortable.”

ライサチェックが（撮影に）参加すると決めたとき、彼は「ああ、撮影する写真家の人たちはそれを快適なものにしてくれるに違いない」と思ったのだという。

But on the day of the photo shoot, Sept. 8, he found himself stark naked on one of the coldest days in Malibu, Calif.

しかし写真撮影のあった９月８日、カリフォルニア州のマリブの寒い日に、彼は自分が完全に裸になるということを理解した。

“It was freezing,” he said in a telephone interview with www.teamusa.org. “Everyone else at the shoot was wearing parkas and here I am.”

Despite the cold, Lysacek said he did enjoy working with the photographer, Matthias Vriens-McGrath. Lysacek said Vriens-McGrath had a dance background and did research on Lysacek’s skating routines.

寒さにもかかわらず、ライサチェックは写真家のマティアス・ヴリーンズとの仕事を楽しんだのだという。彼曰く、ヴリーンズにはダンスの経験があり、ライサチェックのスケートのプログラムについてもよく調べたとのことだ。

“He really wanted the skating angle to come across,” he said.

「彼は良い印象を与えるスケートのアングルを欲していたんですよ」とライサチェック。

The magazine may have only hit newsstands this week, but Lysacek has already received his share of voicemails and text messages from family and friends.

この雑誌は今週のみ店頭に並ぶことになっているが、ライサチェックはすでに家族や友人達から留守電メッセージやテキストメールで感想を受け取っている。

“It’s been really, really kind feedback,” he said.

「本当に、とても親切なフィードバックです」と彼は言う。

Even his parents supported his involvement.

彼の両親でさえ、この撮影への関与を支持した。

“They were fine,” Lysacek said. “I told them it wasn’t going to be full frontal so they were OK. They’re pretty cool.”

「両親は大丈夫でした」とライサチェック。「二人には真正面を向いたオールヌードにはならないだろうって話しておいたんです。だから大丈夫でしたよ。とても冷静でした」

Still, Lysacek might not take a peek at the photo any time soon.

この（取材の）時点においても、ライサチェックは近い将来にその写真をちらりと見るつもりもないらしい。

“In a couple of years, probably,” he said with a laugh.

「きっと２，３年は見ないでしょうね」と、笑いながらライサチェックは言った。
