'Stars on Ice' brings Olympic medalists to town


Evan Lysacek already has the Olympic Gold Medal in men’s figure skating, but that doesn’t mean he plans to take it easy while he’s on the Stars on Ice tour.

エヴァン･ライサチェックはすでにフィギュアスケート男子シングルのオリンピック金メダリストだが、そのこと自体が彼のスターズ･オン･アイスツアーの期間中を気楽に構えさせるというわけではない。

Lysacek is one of the athletes on the popular ice skating extravaganza’s roster. Other skaters include Olympic medalists Sasha Cohen, Jamie Salé, David Pelletier, Joannie Rochette and Ekaterina Gordeeva, among others.

ライサチェックは華やかな人気アイスショーに出演するアスリートの一人である。他のスケーターといえば、オリンピックメダリストのサーシャ・コーエンやジェイミー・サレー＆デヴィット・ペルディエ、ジョアニー･ロシェット、エカテリーナ・ゴルデーワもその中に含まれている。

“I’m still pretty fresh off Vancouver,” said Lysacek. “So I’m going to keep a competitive vibe to my program.”

Lysacek, the first American figure-skating gold medalist since 1988, has already done three Stars on Ice tours, but he said this one is special for a couple of reasons.

First, the tour kicks off in San Jose on Friday, which is the anniversary of when he beat Russia’s Evgeni Plushenko and Japan’s Daisuke Takahashi for the gold.

第一に、このツアーは金曜日にサンノゼから開幕するが、この日は彼がロシアのエフゲニー･プルシェンコと日本の高橋大輔を破って金メダルを獲得した記念すべき日なのだ

Second, it’s also the 25th anniversary of Stars on Ice — a show that brings high-caliber ice skating out from the TV screen and into arenas throughout the United States.

第二に、今回のツアーはスターズ・オン・アイスの２５周年記念公演でもある。このショーは高度のフィギュアスケートをテレビ画面からアメリカ全体のアリーナへともたらしてくれる。

“I’ll be on this tour with athletes like Kurt Browning and others I’ve looked up to for a long time,” he said.

「カート・ブラウニングを始め、僕が長い間尊敬していた他のアスリート達とこのツアーに参加することになっているんですよ！」とライサチェック。

Other popular names include Todd Eldredge skating to Neil Diamond’s “I’ve Been This Way Before” and Michael Weiss performing to Queen’s “Somebody to Love.”

他の人気のあるメンバーとしてはニール・ダイアモンドの『I've Been This Way Before』を滑るトッド・エルドリッジやクイーンの『Somebody to Love』を演じるマイケル･ワイスが含まれている。

Lysacek said he tends to pick classical pieces for his own routines because he likes the eeriness of the music echoing through the arena. When it comes to what he wears, however, he sides on the dramatic. (Remember his Olympic feather hands?)

For the past two years, Lysacek has been collaborating on his costumes with designer Vera Wang, a former figure skater who has become a close friend. He’ll be wearing their latest designs on the road.

His relationship with Wang has also set his sights on eventually designing a menswear collection.

Actually, there’s quite a bit on his agenda these days. Lysacek has also taken some acting gigs and speaking engagements. He’s involved with several charities, including Ronald McDonald House, Make-A-Wish, Special Olympics and Figure Skating in Harlem. And then there’s always the question of whether he’ll go back to Olympic competition.

“I haven’t made that decision,” he said. “But I do stay in shape, even when I’m not training, so that it makes it easier if I do step back into it.”
